Kids are exempted from church services—Mr Dzamesi caution Sunday school teachers against kids services

The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi has cautioned churches to desist from conducting Sunday school services for kids.

According to him, kids were more prone to the respiratory ailments since they had no idea about the nature of the virus and were not in a condition to observe the safety etiquette.

Speaking at Ministers’ media briefing on details of easing restrictions on religious activities yesterday in Accra, the Minister stated that kids were exempted from church service.

He said children did not have broadened mind to observe social distancing protocol and other safety measures outlined for members who would go to church.

Mr Dzamesi noted that kids might exchange personal gadgets, money and be touching surfaces which would prone them to contracting the virus.

He urged parents to take extra care of their wards and not send them to functions where people are gathered to protect them.

Mr Dzamesi also called on religious authorities to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the professional cleaners who would clean and disinfect the premises.

He said after an hour of service there should be 30 minutes intervals to enable the cleaners disinfect chairs, equipments, door knobs and other frequently touched surfaces.

Mr Dzamesi also urged pastors to make use of their associate pastors to deepen the worshipping service.

He appealed to them not to conduct church services in an enclosed space as the risk of contracting the ailments in such condition was high, adding that Muslims should also perform ablution in the house before going to mosque.
