Coronavirus takes toll on the senses of Youth!

The fear of contracting the novel coronavirus among people was rather making people susceptible to the virus.

The disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus, is termed as “scary” and “economic retard agency.”

Scientists confirmed that it spreads quickly among groups and affected about 2 million people with 130,000 deaths worldwide.

America alone has recorded 32,000 deaths and 22million job lost for the past four weeks.

There is currently no vaccine or preventative treatment for it, due to its nature, many people were scared to come into contact with travellers who might be carrying the virus as well as other people within their premises.

There is a growing concern that some people exhibit mild symptoms when having the virus which could be treated at home while others do not show any symptoms, such makes people very frightened.

Some of the public anxiety exhibited in the past month had been disproportionate to the risk posed by Covid-19 as understood today by its threats it imposed on the lives of people.

Through the duration of March, the share concern of people who were scared of contracting COVID-19 increased in Ghana.

Many youth in an interview with Spot On News established that they had faith in God and were adopting other preventive measures to sustain their lives.

They stated that they had been washing their hands with soap under running water with the use of local-gin-based sanitiser.

They further indicated that their parent give them local gin popularly called “Akpeteshie” to drink every night before they go to sleep.

The kids established that alcohol was very effective against COVID-19, thus they even run for it when their parent have not given them a glass.

However, the Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR) has debunked claims that local gin could be a substitute to hand sanitiser or could boost immune system to fight against the virus.

The Head of Public Relations of CPMR, Mr Baffour Osei Akoto, stated that no herbal bitters or local gin could be viable to fight the virus, thus cautioned the public against the use of alcohol.

He explained that the content of alcohol in bitters on the market was often less than 45 per cent and was not effective as a sterilising agent against COVID-19.

Mr Akoto noted that for a sanitiser to be effective, it should contain 60-95per cent alcohol, adding that no medicinal plant, herbal product or local gin had been scientifically proven to effectively fight against the virus.

Other researchers stated the drink of alcohol weaken the immune system and could rather prone people to the virus.

After scientists found that children, aged and those with existing health conditions were susceptible to the virus, some Ghanaian parent took comfort in “Akpeteshie” to help fight the ailment.

It has also been noted the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has banned celebrities in the country from endorsing alcohol.

It seems the fight to refrain kids from embracing alcohol was being futile as COVID-19 has changed kids mindset and take solace in  alcohol to battle the virus.
