Fire guts EC’s Regional office

The Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) located at Sapeiman near Amasaman has been gutted by fire around 2:30am on Friday.

According to the police, they informed the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) immediately they received information about the outbreak.

A statement by the Greater Accra Command of the Ghana Police Service indicated that four fire tenders from Amasaman, Kotoku, Nsawam and Abelemkpe were brought unto the scene to quench the fire.

They were assigned to also provide security at the area to ensure there was no further damage.

It was observed that the room that accommodates used electoral materials was first gutted by the fire.

The statement also assured that the recent outbreak would not affect the registration which ended a week ago.

“The Greater Accra Regional Director of Commission, Mr Kwame Amoah informed the Regional Police Commander DCOP Mr Afful Boakye Yiadom who was at the scene that the fire will not affect the recent registration and the upcoming December 2020 elections,” the statement added.

The fire was finally brought under control at exactly 5:00 am, meanwhile the cause of the fire is not yet known and there was no casualty.

Police officers from the Greater Accra Regional Division were also deployed to provide security for the Fire officers.
