Ghana dances in trauma as Coronavirus case mounts to 1,154

Fear and Panic among Ghanaians mounted to another height as the nation count on the new Coronavirus cases rose from 1,042 to 1,154.

This comes after 112 new results were received from the backlog of tests conducted on 18,000 people.

The number of positive case, as explained by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) was mainly due to the enhanced contact-tracing and testing process which is ongoing.

The exercise which resulted in 86,000 samples taken and undergoing testing,  GHS maintained that the total samples tested so far was 68, 591 with 1.5per cent testing positive.

“The results of these backlog of samples when released does not mean the number of new cases recorded on the day of the report,” it said.

Regions that have reported cases remain the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Northern, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Central, Western and North East regions

This according to the Director-General at the GHS, Dr. Patrick Aboagye who in a press briefing today in Accra explained that the development means that 112 new cases and 21 recoveries have been confirmed since Sunday, April 19 when President Nana Akufo-Addo addressed the country.

The total recovery has now tally to 120, however a section of Ghanaians who shared their experience expressed worry about the increased number and how scared they were when going about their normal routine.

Nana Prempeh in an interview with Spot On News stated that, although government assured Ghanaians about the knowledge scientists in the country have acquired on the virus but still scared.

He reiterated that scientists have acquired knowledge about the genome of the virus that causes COVID-19 and there were enhanced measures in place to make the ailment history on the land, yet gets scared when he goes out to work.

He stated that the idea people have harboured in mind was that the virus was deadly and could affect the rich, poor, healthy and unhealthy persons, thus people were in psychological trauma while moving out.

Nana Prempeh noted that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated in one of his address that “the frontline in the fight against COVID-19 is at your door step and anyone who crosses it put his or her family at risk.”

He insisted that “the virus is with us and nothing has changed, the number keeps increasing each day so why does not he allow the number to  drop down before we go out.”

Ghana, Samuel Baah said was doing well as compared to other countries and the seriousness they have attached in dealing with the ailment.

He further stated that Nana Akufo-Addo had done impressive job, stressing that through the Coronavirus challenge he has realised the great leadership abilities installed in him.

Mr Baah appealed to him that to ease the psychological trauma he should give two weeks more stay at home order to pave way for the health workers to treat the infected people to recover and bring the numbers to the nearest before easing the movement restrictions.
