Govt expresses disappointment in appointees who are COVID-19 positive …admonish them to lead by example

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed disappointment in some of his appointees for not adhering to the safety protocols instituted to fight the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

According to him, some appointees who have tested positive for the virus have acted in a manner that was not expected from them, hence the disappointment.

A statement issued in Accra by the Communications Director of the President, Eugene Arhin indicated that the President has admonished his appointees to bear in mind that they were to provide leadership, at all times by adhering to the safety protocols.

President Akufo-Addo is admonishing all of his appointees to bear in mind that they are to provide leadership, at all times for adherence to the protocols that has been established to help the nation defeat COVID-19,” he said.

This follows the admission by the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah of breaching the  COVID-19 Protocols.

The President stated that a person certified to be positive for the virus has a limited right to be exposing themselves in public places, stressing that “he visited the registration centre in his constituency before the period of self-isolation is complete.”

President Akufo-Addo in his address to the nation has consistently pleaded with the citizenry to adhere strictly to the protocols now more than ever.

He observed that the rise in positive cases was as a result of the breach of the safety protocols instituted to combat the virus.

President Akufo-Addo maintained that discipline was key and encouraged all those who were showing signs of COVID-19 symptoms and those tested positive for the virus to self-isolate in order not to risk lives of others.

“Our adherence to these instituted measures in combating the virus will enhance the process of easing restrictions to bring our nation back to normalcy, always bear in mind that we only lifted the movement ban but the virus is still living among us” he added.

In his 13th address, the President pleaded with the nation to forgive all his appointees and party members who flouted the rules by not obeying the social distancing and public gathering protocols.

He assured the nation of its commitment in ensuring such things were not repeated and appealed to the citizenry to supplement his efforts by embracing all the safety etiquette.

Currently, the President has approved Mr Ahenkorah resignation from his position as a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and had wished well for such move.
