A total of Ghc20,000 has been disbursed to each Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the country to embark on disinfection exercise in markets.

She noted that the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his earlier address appealed to her outfit to coordinate with MMDAs to come up with solution to improve market hygiene to secure the lives of the citizenry.

Hajia Mahama said based on that her outfit thought it prudent to assist MMDAs with funds to help disinfect market place to make it safe for the sellers and their customers.

“Pursuant to this, your office has constituted emergency response committees to implement measures against the spread of the coronavirus,” she stated.

When the country recorded cases of the new coronavirus, many Ghanaians became scared and always said markets would be prone to such virus.

However the government through the MLGRD have implemented various policies to raid markets of filth and bacterias as well as viruses to contain the spread of the virus and protect the foods from being contaminated with the novel coronavirus.

Early this month, disinfection exercise  began in some parts of the country including Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Eastern and the exercise is expected to continue till the deadly virus becomes history in the country.
