Govt is employing 8,076 nurses to enhance effective and efficient health care delivery

A total of 8,073 unemployed nurses to be employed by the government under the Ministry of Health.

According to a statement issued in Accra yesterday and signed by the Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei-Asare the government has given the Ministry of Health (MoH) clearance to employ the 2017 nurses under the field of Nurse Assistant Clinical and Nurse Assistant Preventives to boost the country’s health care delivery service.

“The MoH is hereby granted financial clearance to enable the Ministry post 8,076 Nurse Assistant Clinical and Nurse Assistant Preventive who completed in 2017 from various Public Health Training Institutions,” the statement said.

Ms Osei-Asare charged the health ministry to ensure the nurses have the requisites documents, stressing that their documents should be processed in time and placed on the Mechanized Payroll to enable the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department effect payment of their salaries.

Meanwhile, the effective date of the appointed person, she indicated should not be earlier than November 1, 2020.

Unemployed health professionals over sometime now had been continuously demanding postings from government.

Members of a group calling itself Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association (GUNMA) in January 2020 threatened to demonstrate against the inability of government to provide clearance for their posting.

According to the leadership of the association, they have had a number of engagements with the MoH and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over delays in their posting but yielded no positive result.
