I will serve Ghanaians and the House faithfully— Alban Bagbin pledges

The newly-elected Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has pledged his commitment to faithfully serve Ghanaians.

Delivering his acceptance speech after he was sworn-in by the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah as the new Speaker of Parliament for the eight Parliament on Thursday, January 7, 2021, Mr Bagbin indicated that he would submit the will of the members as well as Ghanaians in the discharge of his duties.

“I will submit myself to the will of this House and pledge to serve my dear country, to serve you, and to serve all Ghanaians faithfully to the best of my ability,” he said.

Mr Bagbin promised to bring to the fore the wealth of experience he has gathered over the years as a parliamentarian in the discharge of his new duties as the Speaker of Parliament.

“I will also conscientiously discharge my duties as the Speaker of this Parliament. I want to promise wholeheartedly to put to the disposal of this country the store of knowledge, enough experience, and the huge data bank that I have accumulated over the 28 years that I have been a member of this House,” he added.

Mr Bagbin was elected in a keenly contested election between himself and former Speaker, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye and won the elections with 138 votes.

His only contender, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye on the other hand polled 136 votes.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) proposed Alban Bagbin as their candidate for the Speaker of Parliament while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) proposed Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye.
