Lift of Ban; NDC has reprimanded Nana Akufo-Addo for lifting the ban on the partial lockdown to pursue election theft plan

Lift of Ban; NDC has reprimanded Nana Akufo-Addo for lifting the ban on the partial lockdown to pursue election theft plan.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reprimanded government for lifting the partial lockdown to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) compile a new voter’s register for this year’s general election.

According to the party, the government’s decision was “reckless” and could enhance the spread of the virus while increasing fatality rate.

A statement issued  yesterday in Accra and signed by the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, stated that the decision was driven by malice  and the hunger of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to get things done for the EC to hasten his winning chances.

“It is clearly a politically-motivated decision, calculated to allow the EC the space to undertake its entrenched and illogical determination to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 general election and nothing more,” he said.

Mr Gyamfi further questioned why the President would impose a partial lockdown to halt the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country, at a time the country had only recorded 134 cases with five deaths, but lifted the lockdown, at a time the positive case count was risen to 1,042 with nine deaths.

He indicated that countries with far lower cases have not lifted their lockdown restrictions and insisted that the decision imposed great threat on the lives of the citizenry.

Mr Gyamfi posited that Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to suspend the lockdown at this crucial time was a reckless political gamble that portends great danger for the nation.

He therefore called on the citizenry to blame and never forgive the government if the reckless decision exacerbates the country’s COVID-19 situation.

“Any fatality that is occasioned by this reckless decision must lie squarely with the President. What the President has essentially done, is to place political expediency ahead of public safety and what that shows, is human lives don’t matter to President Akufo-Addo,” Mr Gyamfi added.

He expelled claims that the decision was based on data analysis and science, saying the country was witnessing astronomical increase in positive COVID-19 case, particularly horizontal infections and his decision was totally premature and lacked scientific basis.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo on Sunday announced his decision to suspend restrictions imposed on the movement of persons living within some parts of Greater Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Areas and its contingent districts after a three week lockdown.

The decision to ease restrictions, according to the President, was due to data analysis and science after the country’s ability to undertake aggressive contact tracing of suspected infected persons, which they isolated and treated those who were positive.

However, all other restrictions including the ban on social gatherings, the full intake of passengers in commercial vehicles, he said were still in force and underscored the need for the citizenry to critically adhere to the social distancing and hygiene protocols while wearing nose masks at all times to protect them from contracting the virus.
