NHIA sacks customers from their premises over mass coronavirus infection among executives

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has cautioned staff with underlying health conditions to stay home after eight of its executives tested positive for the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The company is also barring persons who do not work there from entering the premises.

Exclusive interview by journalist of Starr News revealed that the Coronavirus status of the executives have affected means they carry duties at the Head Office.

Among the executives who have reportedly tested positive are the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Lydia Dsane-Selby, Deputy CEO of Finance and Investment, Deputy CEO Human Resource and Administrator as well as the Deputy CEO of Operations.

In April this year, the NHIA stirred controversy after it donated Ghc250,000 into the COVID-19 Trust Fund.

The move attracted criticisms from health service providers who were still owed by the authority.

It was alleged that shortly after such donation,  Dr Dsane-Selby’s contract was extended and the Health Ministry reportedly organised a party for her to mark her 60th birthday celebration.

Report gathered that the Dr Dsane-Selby who was allegedly the first to have contracted the virus became catalyst for the spread of the disease among the top executives.

A media visit to the premises of the NHIA today could confirm that the earlier reports were accurate and indeed notices have been posted on the wall of the NHIA building.

The statement according to him was clear that visitors were not allowed into the building until further notice.

A staff who gave his name as Quaye after he was refused entry explained that the decision was made to protect their staff from further contracting the disease.

He indicated that persons who wished to do business with them at the premises had to call the officials and get an appointment before being allowed to enter the office premises.
