Restrategise otherwise COVID-19 fight will be a failure— Mahama to govt
The Former President, John Dramani Mahama has reiterated calls on government to protect health workers who are at the forefront speeding the fight against COVID-19.
According to him, the death of some health professionals was a signal for the President to prioritise and optimise protection of the workers to safeguard their lives since the COVID-19 case in the country keeps increasing.
The former President said this in a post on his social media page to extend his condolences to the family of Dr Richard Kisser, a Consultant Surgeon of The Trust Hospital who passed away on Thursday after battling COVID-19.
“We need to ensure greater protection for all our citizens especially the health workers because, without them, the already struggling fight to contain the spread of COVID-19 will be a failure,” he stated.
Ex President Mahama bemoaned that he received the sad news of the passing of Dr Richard Kisser, a Consultant Surgeon, many may have encountered at the Trust Hospital in Osu, Accra.
A few weeks earlier, he indicated the country lost another great physician, Professor Plange-Rhule and Dr Harry Owusu Boateng whose death “is still not lost on us.”
“My condolences to the Kisser family, the management and staff of the Trust Hospital, the Ghana Medical Association and to the many patients he was attending to,” ex President Mahama cried.
He extended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party’s sympathy to all others who have lost loved ones to COVID-19.
A press statement from the Public Relations department of Trust Hospital stated that Dr. Kisser died at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) while receiving treatment.
“We regret to inform all staff of the passing of our consultant surgeon, Dr Richard Kisser.
The sad event occurred on Thursday July 2, 2020 at the UGMC where he was receiving treatment for COV1D-19 complications.
May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement said.
