The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the much disputed Sene West Parliamentary seat after polling 13,231votes against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which had 13,221 votes.

Parliamentary candidate of the NDC beat the NPP with 10 votes after gaining 275 votes from the contentious ballot  box with the NPP candidate gaining 148 votes.

This follows the dismissal of the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate petition by the Wenchi District Court on Thursday morning.

It also fined the NPP candidate a sum of Gh¢14,000 for the case brought  to the court against the Electoral Commission (EC) over the 2020 parliamentary elections in the Sene West Constituency in the Bono East.

The court described the petition as “irredeemably incompetent.”

The ruling paved the way for the Electoral Commission to open the contentious box for counting and also to declare the results for the parliamentary contest in the Sene West constituency in the Bono East Region.

Lead lawyers for the NPP were Nana Sekyere Boateng and Obiri Boahen whiles NDC was represented by Kojoga Adawudu and Ofosu Agyare on Thursday.

There was heavy security presence at the court premises as the judge, Justice Frederick Arnold Na-wura, delivered his verdict.

The NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Joseph Markay Kuma filed the suit after expressing dissatisfaction with what he described as electoral irregularities in the Sene West constituency.

The ruling party requested an injunction on the declaration of the parliamentary results in order to review the outcomes of the elections in the constituency.

The court had earlier awarded a cost of ¢6,000 against the NPP parliamentary candidate for the subsequent withdrawal of their petition for the interlocutory injunction.,

This brings the total Parliamentary seats of the NDC to 137  which is equal to the NPP Parliamentary seat with one independent seat.

Meanwhile, the Fomena MP has expressed readiness to join the NPP in the eight Parliament despite issues the party had with him.

About the contentious ballot box

Wenchi High Court granted a fiat for the ballot box of Tato Battor Polling Station to be counted after the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) prayed the court to injunct the process following the snatch of the ballot box.

The box was snatched by one Christian Nukpeta during the December 7 elections and was retrieved on the same day.

He was slapped with a three-month jail term and banned from voting in any election for five years.

After the counting at the Techiman Divisional Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service, the NDC candidate had 275 as against the NPP’s 148.
