3 members of Nursing, Midwifery Council licences, certificates withdrawn

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has withdrawn the licences and certificates of three members for impersonation and forging documents, to gain admission into Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions.

The Council removed the names of Ms Abigail Bobin (Midwife), Ms Esther Abuubey (Trainee Midwife), and Ms Stephany Arthur Baidoo, (Nurse Assistant), from its register of practitioners.

A statement issued by the Council and sighted by the SpotOnNews, indicated that the fake ‘Practitioners’ and ‘Trainee’ were arrested by officers of the Intelligence and Disciplinary Department of the Council, over impersonation and forged documents to gain admission into Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions.

It said the Registrar of the Council, Mr Felix Nyante, revealed Ms Abigail Bobin and Ms Esther Abuubey, used certificates belonging to others to gain admission into the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Kpembe, in the Northern region.

The statement said when the suspects were invited to the Council, they admitted in written statements that they forged documents and used West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result slips belonging to some persons to gain admission.

In the case of Ms Baidoo, she used someone’s WASSCE certificate and fake birth certificate to gain admission to the Nyaniba Health College, and when she was invited by the Registrar to the Council over the issue, she admitted in a written statement to forging documents to gain admission.

Mr Nyante warned prospective students to ensure that examination results and documents they would present for admission were genuine, to avoid sanctions.

He appealed to heads of nursing and midwifery training institutions and health facilities, to assist the Council with information on suspected students and practitioners, to enable it eliminate quacks.

The Registrar said other suspected fake practitioners and students were being investigated.
