VGMA: Ban on Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy officially lifted

The board of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) has officially lifted the ban imposed on the two dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy after their actions almost marred the night of fun and entertainment.

The ban was imposed following a brawl between the two artistes at the 20th edition of the awards when Stonebwoy brandish a gun when Shatta Wale forced his way on stage at a point Stonebwoy recieved the award of Dancehall artiste of the year.

As a result they were banned them indefinitely and their awards were stripped off.

But at an inaugural ceremony on Thursday, January 28 ahead of the 22nd VGMA, the board decided to reinstate the two artistes.

On February 12, 2021, Charter House, organisers of the awards scheme, in a statement officially announced the board decision to involve the two artistes in this year’s edition.

“The Board agreed to admit them back to the scheme, hoping that such altercations that bring the scheme into disrepute, do not occur in future events,”

“This makes them eligible to participate in this and subsequent editions of VGMA, if they so desire,” it said.

Their collaborative works with other artistes are also eligible for award selection.

Already, nominations have opened for this year’s edition and would close on Monday, February 15.

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have since smoked the peace pipe and were working tirelessly to promote Ghana’s art to the world.

Meanwhile, Bulldog Manager of Shatta Wale has threatened not to allow the artiste not to partake in the awards.

According to him the two artistes, Shatta Wale were disrespected and the board dent their image but getting them arrested .

He said if they don’t officially apologise to the management teams of both artistes, Shatta Wale will not involve himself in the awards.
