Filipino actors, Coco Martin and Paulo Avelino have received massive audience after their movie hit the screens of Ghana.
However, after gaining acceptance and following, many have mistakenly attributed the works of Paulo Avelino to Coco Martin with a claim that the two telenovela icons resemble each other.
Some Ghanaians after watching Brothers, Asintado and the General’s Daughter lauded the acting skills which they said was played by the movie producer, Director and actor Coco Martin while Paulo Avelino who actually played the role of Gael and Franco in Asintado and The General’s Daughter did not receive any recognition.

Coco Martin, born Rodel Pacheco Nacianceno, is a famous Filipino actor, renowned for his critically acclaimed work in indie movies and a number of TV series. He has won immense appreciation for his work, including a number of ‘Best Actor’ awards and nominations. The list of awards that he has won include the ‘Young Critics Circle,’ the ‘Golden Screen Award,’ the ‘Gawad Urian Award,’ and the ‘Anak TV Seal Award.’ He spent most of his childhood with his grandmother. Growing up, he worked several odd jobs, until he was spotted by a talent scout while waiting tables. This led to him to join the agency ‘Star Circle,’ through which he got his first acting break. Childhood & Early Life
Coco Martin was born on November 1, 1981, in Novaliches, Quezon City. His parents were separated. Thus, he was raised by his grandmother, who was a moneylender. As a child, he was known as “Deng.”
He earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management from the ‘National College of Business and Arts’ in Fairview, Quezon City, in 2002.
He also worked in Canada, as an ‘Overseas Filipino Worker’ (OFW), but had to return in a year, as he was unable to find a permanent job there.
He later bagged a role in another afternoon soap, ‘Nagsimula sa Puso,’ in 2009.
He joined the cast of ‘Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo,’ ‘ABS–CBN’s primetime drama, and got his first leading role in the miniseries ‘Tonyong Bayawak’ in 2009.
He was cast in the musical comedy–drama show ‘1DOL’ in 2010, alongside other famous Filipino actors, including Sarah Geronimo and Sam Milby. However, the show was canceled after 35 episodes.
He bagged the lead role in the highly acclaimed series ‘Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin’ in 2011.
Martin won several ‘Best Actor’ awards for his portrayal of twin brothers ‘Alexander’ and ‘Javier Del Tierro.’
In 2012, he won the title of the ‘Prince of Philippine Television’ at the 43rd ‘Guillermo Mendoza Awards.’

Paulo Avelino was born on 13th May 1988, as Michael Paulo Lingbanan Avelino, in Baguio City in the Philippines. His father is Roberto Puigcerver Avelino and his mother is Jennilyn Lingbanan. He has three siblings named Honey, Gabriel, and Angela.
He received his primary education from Baguio City SPED Elementary School before pursuing his secondary education from Baguio Patriotic High School. He then enrolled at Saint Louis University, in Baguio City, to study entrepreneurial management. However, he left during the first year.
Paulo Avelino began his career in 2006 with the reality show ‘Starstruck 4’. He reached the “top 8” after which he was eliminated. He first appeared in the TV show ‘Magic Kamison: Black Jewel in the Palace’ in a guest role.
He later acted in minor as well as supporting roles in TV shows, such as Sine: Novela, Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita, and Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan.

The 2015 historical biopic film ‘Heneral Luna’ is another one of his major works. The film, directed by Jerrold Tarog, was a huge success commercially. Produced on a budget of 80 million pesos, the film had a worldwide collection of 256 million pesos. It won several Luna Awards and Asian Film Festival Awards.
Avelino’s important works on television includes the romantic soap opera ‘Bridges of Love’, where he had a lead role. The story was about two brothers who get separated after an accident. One is adopted by a wealthy architect, while the other returns to his poor parents. Though they grow up and eventually meet, they don’t recognise each other. The series aired from March to August 2015.
