In a recent interview with the media, the actress indicated that parents ought to work hard in order not to rely on their wards for daily upkeep when they reached their retirement stage.

“I feel bad about that,” she said.

Cuneta indicated that sometimes when her children tend to assure her that they would take full responsibility for her, she declined the offer.

“When my kids make me tender and they say, ‘Mama, we’re gonna take care of you, I tell them, ‘You don’t need to do that because I’m working so hard for you guys,” she stated.

She, however, commended children who take full responsibility of their parents when they were older as a pay back to their parents for their job of taking care of them.

“But I think it’s also right for a child, like I did. I really didn’t have to take care of my parents day-to-day, but when there’s a big bill, like a medical bill, OMG, these are my parents, and without their guidance and their love, the way they raised me, I don’t think I’ll go as far as I have.

“I think we also need filial piety. It’s just in our culture. And I’m sorry, no matter what you say, you owe it to your parents,” Cuneta stressed.

She maintained that even if parents might not need help, “it still flutters them if their kids show them they care.”
