Kaywa Condemns VGMA Board’s intention to include “Things Fall Apart” in the Gospel Category…… advocates for “Christian Music” in the Awards Scheme.

Ghana Music Producer, Kaywa has condemned the intention of VGMA board members to include Kofi Kinaata, Kuame Eugene and other secular artistes in the “Gospel” category of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

According to him, the act would be difficult for Ghanaians to draw the line between gospel tracks and secular tracks.

The sound engineer rather advocated for ‘Christian Music’ in the awards category to enable the secular artistes get awarded for their inspirational songs.

He embraced the fact that most of the secular artistes were changing trends and motivating the world with their gospel-like tracks, thus deserves a particular category in the award scheme to reward them for their hard work.

“Bringing such category can change the mindset of people who view secular artistes as ungodly,” he said.

Explaining the concept of the Christian category, he indicated that Christian music depicts tracks that motivate the world to believe in God and remain in their faith as Christians.

Kaywa noted that with such category the artiste could go back and do their secular tracks, saying “that has been their niche market involving them in the gospel awards category will change their market tag.”

He mentioned that “things fall apart” a track by Kofi Kinaata which is receiving massive airplay and trending at home and on various social media platforms is an insightful track that could be categorised under Christian music.

Kaywa explained that although the track convey the ills in the worshiping of God and preaches for the people to change their act but was not good enough to be grouped along with gospel music.

Speaking on Amansan Television (ATV)  Christian review show , David Kojo Kyei who is also known as Kaywa said those secular artistes deserved such category to inspire other artistes to also embrace such genre.
