Prez Akufo-Addo resumes work today after 14-day self-isolation
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has completed his two-week COVID-19 self-isolation, and is expected to resume work from his office at the Jubilee House today.
The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who announced this at the COVID-19 media briefing in Accra yesterday, said the President will not be confined in his office alone but also perform official engagements outside the Jubilee House.
President Akufo-Addo, on July 4, began a 14-day mandatory self-isolation on the advice of doctors, after at least one person in his close circles tested positive for COVID-19.
Over the 14-day period, the President performed official duties, including a virtual Cabinet meeting and other important meetings. The period of self-isolation officially ended yesterday.
As part of his first public duty post self-isolation, President Akufo-Addo sent a message wishing all the 313,837 final year Senior High School (SHS) students who will, from today, take the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) the best of luck.
“Every Ghanaian acknowledged that education is the key to the future of our country. We, therefore, must do everything possible, even in the midst of a pandemic, to guarantee the prospects of our youth, protect their potential, and, thereby, help preserve our collective future,” the statement read.
The statement called on everyone associated with the conduct of the exam, including teaching and non-teaching staff, invigilators, and students, to abide by the enhanced hygiene, mask wearing, and social distancing protocols they have become accustomed to.
“They continue to remain our weapons in the fight to defeat COVID-19. Once again, I wish all the students the best of luck and Godspeed in their examination,” the statement read.
