15-year student commits suicide in school at Sunyani

A 15- year- old final year student of Miracle Junior High School in Sunyani, Leticia Kyere Pinaman is alleged to have committed suicide at the school’s dining hall yesterday.

She was found hanging with a nylon rope tied around the neck on one of the wooden structures used to roof of the building at the dining hall.

The Sunyani Municipal Crime Officer, DSP Kingsley Wiredu, confirmed the story to journalists in Sunyani yesterday.

According to him, the head teacher of the school, John Tetteh, came to report the matter to the police yesterday around 7:30 pm.

The crime officer said the head teacher said he was informed about the incident in the school and proceeded to the scene where the girl was found hanging.

DSP Wiredu said the police went to the school and found the deceased hanging above a table she stood on to carry out the act.

The crime officer said a suicide note found on her read “by the time you finish reading this note I will be gone”, and thanked those of her friends who have done good to her.

DSP Wiredu said the suicide note was exactly her hand writing when the police cross checked with her hand writing.

He said a check on her body showed that there were violent marks around the neck and that the body had been conveyed to the Sunyani Municipal Hospital pending further investigation and autopsy.

The police, he said are not suspecting any foul play unless otherwise proven.

Meanwhile the school has expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late student and assured to collaborate with the police to unravel the actual incident that led to her death.

The headmaster through a statement issued in Sunyani on Tuesday and signed by him indicated that a communique would be issued when the authorities know more about her death.

It therefore advised the media to desist from circulating false information about the death of Leticia.

“This is a sad day and has shocked the institution to the core,” the statement added.
