Election Petition: Mahama demands court to halt the case
The 2020 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama is asking the Supreme Court to put all proceedings relating to the ongoing Election Petition on hold.
This follows the failure of the court to grant the 12 interrogatories put forward by the lead counsel of the petitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata on the Electoral Commission which the court dismissed and described it as irrelevant.

Mr Tsikata also filed an application urging the court to review its early decision that turned down a request to subject the EC Chairperson to answer the 12 questions and filed a new motion to demand the EC to present to them all the 275 pink sheets.
The court on Wednesday ordered Former President Mahama and his legal team to file its witness statements by close of Thursday, January 21, 2021 but Spot on News gathered that Mr Mahama failed to send the witness documents.
The lawyers of the aggrieved flagbearer of the NDC on Thursday morning filed another application asking the court to halt all proceedings relating to the case till it determines their review application.

The lawyers argued that a serious miscarriage of justice would be occasioned if the court proceeds without a determination of the review application.
This they explained could result in irreparable harm that cannot be remedied.
The lawyers in the document also remind the court that their request to the Electoral Commission that it admits certain facts has not been complied with.
This they explain is needed to finalise the witness statements, thus they have not filed the witness statements as directed by the court.
