Ghana does not need a Speaker of Parliament who needs an ambulance— Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia on Thursday rejected the nominated speaker of Parliament by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming he was not healthy enough to carry out the mandate of Speaker of the eight Parliament.

According to him, the country does not need a speaker who will always need ambulance and be carried into a car wherever he goes.

Speaking in a media interview ahead of the inauguration of the eight Parliament, Mr Asiedu Nketia explained that Ghana needs a healthy Speaker of Parliament who can do the work, hence their nominee, Alban Sumana Bagbin.

He insisted that the country has reached a level which its democracy was working at its highest peak and would be unnecessary to have a Speaker of Parliament who moves with an ambulance.

Mr Asiedu Nketia indicated that Alban Bagbin has the requisite knowledge and experience as a Parliamentarian for several years and believed that he would do a great job in Parliament as a Speaker.

“We don’t need a speaker who you have to carry him into his car and out of his car. Let us be serious. We don’t need a speaker who always needs an ambulance,” he stressed.
