The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to families of deceased to go for the corpse locked in the morgue in order to enable mortuary administrators decongest the place.

That, he said would improve the health of the nation and enhance the efficiency of work at mortuaries.

The President noted that unhygienic conditions of morgue were becoming hazardous to the health of workers and the citizenry as a whole.

Addressing the nation today in Accra, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that it was prudent to observe good heath practices especially at the time that the nation was battling COVID-19.

He  observed that various families due to the lockdown and the ‘no social gathering” have left the corpse of their relatives in the various mortuaries, stressing that this has become difficult for mortuary administrators to admit new corpses.

Nana Akufo-Addo appealed to families to go for their deceased relatives and either hold private burial service for them or bury them and in later date conduct funeral service in the memory of the deceased.

He observed that the nation was not in “ordinary time” to be holding gatherings, thus the people should comply to the directives and observe a solemn service for their deceased members.

Nana Akufo-Addo indicated government’s commitment to help the country fight the new ailment but stated that the health of each person lays on each person’s hand.

He said the dead bodies could not congest mortuaries, stressing that it would lead to other related ailments which the nation could not contain.

Nana Akufo-Addo called on such families to act fast before things go out of hand to make the nation a better place for all.
