Matthew Opoku Prempeh discharged after testing positive for COVID-19

The Minister of Education,Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has been discharged from the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) after testing positive for COVID-19.

He was discharged today over two week treatment at the UGMC although earlier report suggest that he was detained while he awaits his COVID-19 test result.

According to a statement issued in Accra today by the Secretary of the Ministry, Rodney Nkrumah-Boateng, Dr Opoku Prempeh was discharged with a positive rapid antibody.

“The Minister for Education,  Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, announces that he has been discharged from the UGMC in Accra with a positive rapid antibody test result and will be further monitored,” he said.

Mr Nkrumah noted that the minister would receive further medication at home and expressed his gratitude to all those who prayed for his recovery.

“He is currently at home resting and would like to thank all those who wished him well during his time in hospital,” he added.

Earlier statement issued from the office of the sector Minister explained that Dr Opoku Prempeh was feeling unwell and went to test for the disease.

“On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, he underwent various tests, including COVID-19, after feeling unwell for a couple of days.

The minister tested negative for the virus, and this informed his decision to travel to his constituency for his acclamation on Saturday, June 20.

Following his return to Accra, he still felt unwell, and decided to check himself for further tests, including second test for COVID-19,” the statement stressed.

It further indicated that he was detained at the UGMC as a precautionary measure for further observation, due to his condition.
