Nigerian government imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lagos State to save lives against EndSARS brutalities

The  Nigerian government  has declared a 24-hour curfew across Lagos state to protect the citizens against some unscrupulous beings who are hiding behind the ongoing protests to inflict pain and kill people.

The announcement was made by the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu via his official Twitter handle today.

He said the decision follows the violence which has broken out in some parts of the state about activities of criminals hiding under the guise of “End Special Anti-Robbery Squad (EndSARS)” protesters.

“I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society,” he said.

Lives and limbs, President Sanwo-Olu stated had been lost as criminals and miscreants were now hiding under the umbrella of these protesters to unleash mayhem on the state.

“As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state,” he said.

President Sanwo-Olu therefore imposed a 24-hour curfew to find the unscrupulous beings while saving lives of the Nigerians against the miscreants.

“I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4:00 pm today, 20th October 2020.

Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders, must be found on the streets,” he declared.

The protest which began few weeks ago against the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit in the Nigeria Police Force.

Unlike other security outfits, SARS officials do not wear the usual police uniforms but they reportedly harass the public while discharging their duties across Nigeria.

After several injustices which include extortion and killings, youths are demanding a total ban of their operation, after previous efforts by the government to reform and reorganise the unit.
