We will deal with prepatrators of violence during December 7 elections—IGP assures
Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, James Oppong-Boanuh has warned that person’s who will be found culpable in hindering the smooth flow of the elections during the December 7 polls will be dealt with.
He said the security will not exercise any restraint in dealing with offenders irrespective of their political affiliation and calibre.
“Security services are very familiar with the laws and every person or group of persons who falls foul of the law will be dealt with,” he said.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, Mr Oppong-Boanuh indicated that the security would not tolerate any irregularities and would beef up measures to minimise any electoral violence during and after the elections.
He said the security would ensure the laws governing elections were strictly adhered to maintain peace and order and to secure the public from any violence attack while ensuring free and fair elections.

The Inspector General of Police announced that a total of 62,794 security personnel would be deployed to provide security during the elections.
The security personnel, according to him comprise of police officers, military officials, and personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Revenue Authority among others.
“62,794 security personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Fire Service, the Ghana Prison Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, and the Ghana Armed Forces are being deployed for the elections,” Mr Oppong-Boanuh added.

The personnel, he noted would be in their regular uniforms with the exception of officers from the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police Service and the Bureau of National Investigations who would remain invisible to keep eye on the elections.
“I have already said that we have a deep commitment to preventing crime from happening, but where they do happen, we will arraign the offenders, do the investigations, gather the necessary evidence and get them prosecuted successfully,” Mr Oppong-Boanuh assured.
