Government tasks police to expedite action in unraveling Ejura death incident

The government has tasked the police to expedite action in unraveling circumstances leading to the unfortunate death of Mr Ibrahim Mohammed also known as Kaka at Ejura on Saturday.

It also urged them to work to bring finality to all other such murders to regain the confidence of the people.

According to government, the continuous delay in identifying persons behind such unfortunate incidents often bred suspicion leading to the rioting witnessed in Ejura on Tuesday.

Addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday, the Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said government viewed what happened at Ejura seriously and would ensure that persons found culpable after investigations were dealt with according to law.

He said the death of Kaka and the two others as well as the others who sustained injuries during the protest on Tuesday, 29th June was unfortunate and must be condemned by all.

‘Government wishes to commiserate with the families of the victims and their loved ones and urge the security agencies to be quick and clinical in getting to the bottom of this and other unresolved crimes,” he said.

Mr Nkrumah explained that while it was understandable that police investigations sometimes took a while, it did not instill confidence in the public if such acts went unresolved and unpunished swiftly.

“So the police needs to get to the bottom of this. Also a credible investigations needs to be conducted into the crowd rioting and crowd controlling incident of 29th June,” he emphasised.

The Minister said this was necessary because it would bring clarity to the sequence of events and ensure that any person who acted inappropriately was punished.

He also commended family members and youth groups who had asked opportunistic individuals and groups who want to take advantage of the unfortunate incident for their parochial interest to back off and allow the authorities to perform their duties.
