Attributing the Killing of Mfantseman MP to robbers is to distort facts—Kennedy Agyapong

The Member of Parliament (MP) of Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has described as “unfounded” the manner in which people are attributing the murder of the MP for Mfantseman constituency, Ekow Kwansah Hayford, to robbery.

According to him, the murder raises the question as to why one person was targeted during the robbery operation despite eight cars being stopped.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the family of the late MP to express his condolences on Monday, Mr Agyapong assured them and the residents of Mfantseman of justice.

He disclosed that preliminarily investigation conducted by his team indicates that the MP was killed by contract killers and not armed robbers as the media is reporting.

He called on the public to desist from saying the grievous act was committed by armed robbers.

“No one should say that it is an armed robbery case. You people per the media information got six cars but I have eight cars that were stopped by killers. So I am pleading with you to slow down on the talks,” he said.

While warning some persons who described themselves as eyewitnesses, Mr Agyapong stated that their narratives were hindering the investigation by the police and assured that he would collaborate with the police to apprehend the culprits with speed.

“The eyewitness didn’t help us. The gentleman said he was part but before he spoke I had already spoken to three of the people involved and written down their statements,” he revealed.

Mr Agyapong indicated that the acclaimed eyewitness is making it difficult for the facts surrounding the attack to be ascertained as his narration did not add up.

He assured the family that the police, national security and other stakeholders were working around the clock to find the culprits and bring them to book as soon as possible.

He urged the public not to comment on the murder case as investigations were ongoing to find the rightful killers and the truth behind the murdering of Mr Hayford.

“The guy didn’t speak well. When you do that, you make the job difficult for police officers, national security and those of us investigating. He spoke as if he was part of the entourage meanwhile he wasn’t part. I’m warning him to stop talking else he will be the first suspect. He should stop talking.

“No one should say that it was an armed robbery attack. Of all the people line up by the robbers, only one person was killed. I’m pleading with you to leave everything for me and I will handle it. I believe God will also come through. We need your help,” Mr Agyapong cried.

He also revealed that prior to the death of the MP, Elvis Morris Donkoh who is the current MP for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese constituency had received a call from some unknown person warning him about threats to his life.

He said Mr Donkoh had also been urged to call the late Mfantseman MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency since their lives were also in danger.

Mr Hayford was shot on Friday around 1:00am by suspected armed robbers when returning to his constituency from a campaign trip on October 9, 2020.

The incident happened on the Abeadze Dominase–Abeadze Duadzi–Mankessim road.

It was reported that despite indicating he was a legislator when attacked, the assailants went ahead to shoot him with an offense of contributing to national hardship.

Mr Hayford is known for engaging in developmental projects in his constituency and his affable nature
