EC promises to rectify all the electoral anomalies before holding the special voting exercise

EC promises to rectify all voter register’s anomalies before holding the special voting exercise

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the special voting exercise for Tuesday, December 1 for voters who will work on election day.

The Special Voting exercise is held mostly for electorates who as a result of their duties might not be available on elections day to vote at polling stations where they registered on the day of elections.

Among these voters are election officials, security personnel and media personnel who would work outside their jurisdiction on election day.

The Commission, in a statement on Friday, October 2, requested lists of voters in this category as per the Public Elections Regulations of 2020, CI 127.

“Lists received after the 15th of October, 2020 will not be processed,” the statement said.

The main elections for Presidential and parliamentary would be held on Monday, December 7.

Meanwhile, The Electoral Commission says it has taken note of some biometric voter registration (BVR) kits at some registration centres issuing voter identity numbers which have already been issued to previous registrants.

“This error has been corrected. The affected applicants will be contacted and issued with new ID cards with unique numbers.

“It is important to note that, the biometric and biographic details of the affected applicants are intact,” the Commission said in a statement issued in Accra on Thursday.

The Commission on Thursday embarked on a one-day mob-up exercise to register persons who for one reason or the other could not register during the mass exercise earlier in August.

The exhibition exercise of the register which ended on Sunday has been fraught with irregularities with numerous names missing from the roll.

The Commission has assured it would rectify the anomalies before the register is finalised.
