Govt extends health workers’ stimulus package for three months

Government has extended the stimulus package for health workers for three months to enable them discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.

Speaking in a televised address on measures taken to curb coronavirus in the country in Accra on Sunday, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo noted that the frontline workers have worked impressively to save lives, thus the extension of the package.

He said they were selfless and were poised to work harder to combat the virus from the country.

President Akufo-Addo noted that the insurance for health workers were in place to motivate them.

In his fifth address to nation, he announced an insurance package for health workers intended at boosting their morale as they risk their lives to help contain the disease.

An insurance package, with an assured sum of Gh¢350,000 for each health personnel and allied professional at the forefront of the fight, was put in place, with a daily allowance of Gh¢150 being paid to contact tracers.

“Government has also decided that all health workers will not pay taxes on their emoluments for the next three months, i.e. April, May and June,” President Akufo-Addo said.

In addition to these, all front line health workers received an additional allowance of 50 per cent of their basic salary per month for March, April, May and June.

The March allowance was paid alongside April and also provided free transport for health workers during the lockdown.

The government assured its commitment in helping health workers to supplement its efforts in containing the spread of the virus, adding that “I will do my best to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the virus on lives.”
