Breaking: Sekondi-Takoradi mayor who led mass COVID-19 test has passed away

The Mayor of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in the Western Region, Anthony K K Sam, has passed away after short illness.

He passed away today after a week admission at the hospital.

According to the Presiding Member of the Assembly, John Kwesi Buckman who confirmed the unfortunate news to the media said currently the senior officials were at the premise of the mayor to comfort the family.

“It is true the Chief Executive has passed away today, but details of his death cannot be disclosed now,” he added.

Mr Buckman stated that the mayor was seen in the office last Wednesday, but he left feeling unwell after a meeting with some religious leaders.

The deceased led arrangement towards the closure of four major markets in Sekondi and Takoradi on  May 28, 2020 due to surge in COVID-19 cases and also supervised mass testing of COVID-19 for all STMA residents.
