Google CEO explains why Veep’s name appears as the ‘biggest liar in Ghana’
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has broke the internet for days now after news popped out that he is been ranked as the “biggest liar in Ghana” according to Google.
The news which became unpleasant by his party members, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other individuals received massive support from the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), thus trended the entire week.
The news was used by the NDC supporters to gain political credit that Dr Bawumia was (is) the biggest liar in the country which the nation has to deal with him by voting against his party in the upcoming polls.
They went further to back their claims with the Google result, making it more truthful and evidence-based claim.
Upon research, it has come to light that Google does not rank people based on the owner’s ideas but per information which which online contributors feed the search engine with.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google, Sundar Pichai in 2008 appeared before a Judiciary Committee hearing in Washington DC where he was asked questions as to why Donald Trump’s images appear anytime the word “IDIOT” was googled.
Explaining how Google works, he said “Anytime you type in a Keyword, as Google we have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of Websites pages in our index. And we take the Keyword and match it against their pages and rank them based on over 200 signals – things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it.

And based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best search results for that query. And then evaluate it to objective guideline. And that is how we make sure the process is working. This is working at scale and we don’t manually intervene on any particular search result,” He said.
Mr Pichai in his explanation, disclaimed that Google did not rank President Trump as “Idiot.”
In that regards Google did not rank Dr Bawumia as liar based on their feelings and thoughts but per the information that Ghanaians enter into the internet.

The disclaimer goes further to suggest that Google did not identify Bawumia as the “biggest liar in Ghana,” however Bawumia’s image and name might have appeared because many Ghanaian website contributors have attributed his name and Images with the word.
