Gunmen on robbery spree in Sunyani … rob mobile money vendors of cash, ransack mobile phone shop, make away with monies

Two gunmen on motorbike in a ‘Rambo style’ stormed the Sunyani Main Post Office area, snatched cash from mobile money vendors and made away  with  bags  containing  cash and other  valuables of unsuspecting victims.
At gunpoint, they also attacked and robbed a mobile phone merchant of undisclosed sums of money and sped off.
A young woman, who had earlier withdrawn money from the Sunyani main branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank, and decided to make transactions at the mobile money merchant, near the bank, was not spared in the robbery spree, according to bystanders, who described, when the robbery happened around 10:30am.
The masked gunmen’s next target was Janet Amponsah, a trader, who had just cashed  GH¢15,000  from the Sunyani branch of the Consolidated Bank (CBG), before robbing a mobile money merchant of GH¢5,000.
The incident, which occurred in a broad daylight around 11:30am on Thursday, has created fear and panic among residents of the Sunyani municipality, who appealed to the police to intensify  patrols to safeguard  their safety and property.
Charles Konadu, a mobile money merchant, who narrated his story said one of the robbers dropped off from the bike while the other waited on the bike.
“Suddenly, this guy pointed a pistol at me, and demanded that I hand over my bag containing  the  phone I was using for mobile money transactions and GH¢5000 in a bag, which I obliged for fear of being shot,” he said.
A police source at the Sunyani Municipal Police corroborated the robbery attacks story to the media, but declined to make further comments.
The regional commander could not be reached as the reporter was told that he had traveled outside the region on official assignment.
