Let’s keep the vote margin to retire Mahama from politics—Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu to Ghanaians

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has called on Ghanaians to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to help retire former President John Dramani Mahama from politics.

According to him, their support would go a long way to help the party’s flagbearer, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to gain massive vote and win the elections against his opponent.

Speaking at the launch of the NPP’s Bono East Youth Wing campaign in Techiman on Sunday, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame constituency who is also the Majority Leader in Parliament noted that the supporters of the party together with Ghanaians could help retire the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer by voting against him.

The campaign was launched under the theme “Transforming Bono East into our strongholds: The focus of the youth.”

He recounted that President Akufo-Addo beat ex president Mahama with a margin of about million votes and urged Ghanaians to keep the margin in order for the NDC not to have any option than to retire their flagbearer from politics.

“I told my constituents in the Ashanti Region that, the 2020 election is a ‘double-track election.’ Akufo-Addo beat Mahama in the previous elections with a margin of about a million votes. If the margin of victory reduces in this coming election, John Mahama will feel he can come and run again. Let us vote massively and win by two million votes so that even the NDC would have no option but to retire him. That is what we must do,” Mr Bonsu said.

He encouraged the supporters to exercise their franchise with victory in mind to retire former president Mahama.

“This is why I am saying the election is a double track one. We are voting to win and also to retire John Mahama,” Mr Bonsu emphasised.

He appealed to the party supporters to work hard towards the 2020 elections and maintain a united front in order to retain the party in power.

Mr Bonsu said they could help champion this by voting for all NPP parliamentary candidates to ensure NPP maintains a majority in Parliament.

“If Akufo-Addo wants to do something, it has to be backed by law. If he doesn’t have the majority of his people in Parliament, and the NDC boycotts sittings as we have been seeing, it will be very difficult to pass any law. This is why we have to unite and get the majority of our people in Parliament,” he said.

Maintaining NPP as majority in Parliament, Mr Bonsu indicated would ensure the dreams of the president to improve standard of living and development of the country be realised.

“This will ensure that whatever President Akufo-Addo wants to do for you will be easily achieved. We can do this by being united,” he added.

Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP National Youth Organiser, NPP parliamentary candidates for Atebubu-Amantin, Techiman North, Nkoranza South, among other party executives were also present at the launch.
