Rawlings corpse is for us, Asiedu Nketia threatens seperate funeral

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has expressed the party’s readiness to organise a separate funeral service in honour of the founder of the party, former President Jerry John Rawlings.

According to him, the NDC would not accept the manner the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was trying to sideline the members of the NDC to hijack the funeral process of Rawlings.

Speaking in a media interview in Accra, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the funeral was for the NDC party and expressed shock  on how the government was sabotaging the NDC members including the flagbearer, former president John Dramani Mahama.

“Everything about this funeral, so far, depicts an attempt by an opponent to hijack the funeral of the founding father of our political party, and we don’t think the funeral of our party founder ought to be organised somewhere, and we get invited,” he said.

Mr Asiedu Nketia announced that the NDC was doing everything possible to ensure they have active participation in the funeral rite of former president Rawlings’ funeral.

“We have called on the immediate family to share condolences, and we are beginning to discuss the way forward. We have directed all branches of our party countrywide to organise events countrywide that will give a fitting celebration of the life of our founder… We will participate [in the national funeral] but that will not stop us from organising our own thing,” he added.
