NDC claims it has enough evidence to take EC on for a ‘stolen verdict’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday presented evidence about the 2020 General Elections to back their call on Electoral Commission (EC) to present a fair verdict about the December 7 polls.

Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, who presented the evidence of the electoral fraud said there were figures that the EC failed to capture in the gazetted results.

He indicated that the party’s audit team after a thorough examination of the pink sheets from the Ashanti Region, detected fraud in the presidential results in five constituencies and Gushegu in the Northern Region.

He mentioned Ejisu, Atiwa, Kwanwoma, Akrofoum, Atwima Nwabiagya North and Manhyia North where a total votes of about 2,123 were added to that of the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while at least 1,075 votes were deducted from that of the NDC presidential candidate.

Mr Gyamfi further eluded that about 10,000 people voted in the General Election, without verification, which resulted in multiple voting in favour of the NPP presidential candidate.

“There was no space created by the EC presiding officers to record the number of persons verified by biometric devices. In 2016, space was created in accordance with the law to check over voting,” he claimed.

Mr Gyamfi maintained that the 2020 presidential election results declared by the returning officer, Jean Mensa, was a ‘stolen verdict’ for the incumbent president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, hence his party’s rejection of the declared results.

He indicated that what the party detected in their audit of the pink sheets was “naked thievery.”

“So Sunyani West SDA Primary School, Chiraa 1 Polling Station, the number of voters on the voter’s register is 49. Total ballots allocated to the polling station by the EC per the constituency ballot statistics document they themselves gave political parties is 60.”

“Yet, the total votes cast at the polling station is 466 as recorded on the face of the pink sheet. If this is not evidence of electoral fraud, then what is it?” Mr Gyamfi queried.

This, he noted was one of the thousands of cases of over-voting uncovered through the audit of pink sheets.

“Right from the onset, it was clear that the NPP was given an illegal advantage to cheat by the Electoral Commission. They have been given official ballot papers which were security materials, stamped with the EC’s validation stamp,” Mr Gyamfi alleged.

He recounted that prior to the election, the NDC envisaged the error and drew the attention of the EC that the pink sheets were a recipe for disaster, which could generate over voting, and the EC apologised and assured the party for ratification.

He said on the blind side of the NDC, the EC distributed the defective pink sheets to all over 38,000 polling stations without space for presiding officer to record number of persons biometrically verified to vote.

Dr Justice Moses Aheto, Member of the NDC Audit Team, said the presidential election results as declared by the EC should have been a run-off after careful analysing the pink sheets of the party.

He said this was concluded after comparing the gazetted declaration figures to that of the EC.

Dr Aheto said there was a conscious effort by the EC to manipulate the figures to meet the target set by the EC and the NPP, adding that additional figures had been added to that of the other eight presidential candidates after the EC gazetted data.
