8 policemen extort Gh¢ 38, 000 from drivers
The Accra Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the alleged extortion by eight police personnel.
The policemen were reported to have extorted GH¢38,000 from two drivers at separate locations.

The investigations were directed by the Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Afful Boakye-Yiadom, following two reported cases against the policemen.
The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, disclosed these to the media, in Accra on Tuesday.
She said last Friday a complainant, who was on board an Uber vehicle from Madina to Airport, reported at the Kaneshie Police that five armed policemen intercepted the vehicle at UPSA road.
DSP Tenge said the complainant indicated that the five policemen, who were on board Operation Calm Life police vehicle, accused him of being a fraudster and arrested him and asked the Uber vehicle driver to go.

According to the PRO, the complainant reported to the police that the policemen forced him to transfer GH¢20,000 into a momo account and abandoned him to his fate.
DSP Tenge said in a related development, a report was made at the Achimota Police Station, indicating that a complainant was driving his unregistered Mercedes Benz with trade plates from Ashongman to the Legon Hospital.
The Police PRO said when the complainant reached Haatso branch of Ecobank, off the Atomic-Madina road, three policemen using a service vehicle stopped him, searched his car, accused him of being a cyber fraudster and arrested him.
The Police PRO stated that the policemen handcuffed the complainant and escorted him to Silver Star Towers at Airport and Okponglo and forced him to withdraw cash of GH¢18,000.00 from his bank account with ATM, for them.
DSP Tenge gave the assurance that the Regional Police Command would investigate the allegations and take punitive actions against the perpetrators.
