COVID-19:Water supply to be interrupted, Management of GWCL cautions citizens

Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has appealed to the public to store water due to disruption the country might face in water supply.

According to GWCL, before the pandemic outbreak in the country, they already announced some challenges they were experiencing, in a result, Accra and other part of the country would not receive constant flow of water.

In a statement issued yesterday in Accra by the Head of Communications of GWCL, it  explained that citizens were advised by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to regularly wash their hands under running water due to the pandemic.

The statement noted that some Ghanaians after the advise were rather misusing the water which has resulted in pressure on the water.

“With the erratic flow in some areas, consumers are advised to use improvised receptacles like the “Veronica Bucket” in the washing of hands and dispose of the dirty water immediately after,” the statement said.

It cautioned people who use treated water to keep lawns green and washing of vehicles to desist from the act, adding that “these practices reduce the pressures in the pipelines, thereby causing low pressure and no flow in some areas, especially areas located in high elevations.”

Management advised consumers to increase storage of water while it is flowing, so that in the event of low pressures or no flow, consumers could resort to their storage.

The statement urged the citizens to use water prudently and assured the citizens that management was working assiduously to solve the water situation in the country.

It also advised the citizenry to pay their bills promptly and called on them to report all burst pipes and leakages immediately to the nearest GWCL district offices, Customer Service centres, Fault Offices, and GWCL WhatsApp lines (0555123393, 0555155524, 0207385088, 0207385089, 0207385090  to help them serve the country better.
