Eno Barony speaks : “It took long for me to be recognised” – after receiving rapper of the year award

After years of hard work, dedication and consistent release of rap music, Eno Barony has finally won herself the rapper of the year award at the 22nd edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which was held in Accra on Saturday.

Being the only woman to rob shoulders with Sarkodie, Medikal, Amerado, Joey B and Strongman, Eno Barony sets a record as the Yaa Asantsewa in the Ghana rap music beating all her male counterparts for the converted awards.

Speaking in an interview with SpotOnNews after receiving the awards, Eno Barony indicated that it took so long for her to be awarded the rapper of the year which has been renamed as the “Best rap performance award”.

She explained that she started rapping without anyone paying attention to her craft, stressing that she did not give up and continued to strive in the industry.

“It started as if it was a joke, people did not pay attention to me but I kept my heads up high and continued. It wasn’t easy for me but with dedication, hard work and perseverance here I am today winning the best rap performance awards. In fact it has taken so long for this awards to get here,” Eno Barony speaks.

She advised Ghanaians to take a cue from her experience and continue to persevere in everything that they do.

“I thank my fans and everyone. I will encourage you not to give up in whatever they do. I dedicate this awards to my family and fans thank you,” Eno Barony added.

Known in private life as Ruth Eno Adjoa Amankwah Nyame Adom even though she had previously recorded other singles, Eno came to wider attention when she released the remix of, “Tonga”, in 2014, which received commercial airplay.

She later recorded more songs including “Megye Wo Boy” in 2015, on which she collaborated with Abrewa Nana.

In 2015, her mother died, after several months of mourning, she broke the silence with hip hop song titled “The Best” with multiple award-winning Togolese  artiste and Brand Ambassador for Togocel, Mic Flammez.

She also won the best rapper of the year at the 3Music Awards held early this year.
