The 14per cent rating of Akufo-Addo’s achievement by the NDC is a strategy of intellectual dishonesty—Kojo Oppong Nkrumah jabs NDC

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has rejected claim by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that suggests the Akufo-Addo led administration made 631 promises in its 2016 manifesto.

According to him, the government made 388 promises which it has fulfilled most of them.

Responding to the NDC allegations in Accra today, Mr Nkrumah indicated that as they were getting closer to the 2020 national conversation period, their close contender, the NDC party seeks to cap a narrative of dishonesty to misinform the public in order to gain good face for vote.

“In order to give life to that narrative, they have to create scenarios that we made 631 promises, adding some 235 to that 388 to make it 631,” he stated.

Mr Nkrumah noted that the claim was part of NDC’s strategy to increase New Patriotic Party (NPP) promises from 388 to 635 to enable them lay a claim of dishonesty against the administration.

The NDC at a media engagement on Monday argued that the Akufo-Addo led government made 631 promises in its 2016 manifesto adding that only 83 of such promises have been delivered.

NDC thus rated the Akufo-Addo government 14per cent  for the 83 alleged promises fulfilled.

However, Mr Nkrumah debunked the claim and accused the NDC of engaging in a dishonest exercise to make the government unpopular.

“Yes, there was a lot of drama, flashes, and screams in their presentation today, but if you strip it of all the drama, the screams and the flashes, in substance, if you take the form away, there were two main claims they made which the government believes must be corrected in time,” he stated.

The first claim, Mr Nkrumah observed was the deceitful increase number of the promises they outlined in their presentation to downplay the achievement of the NPP party.

“Secondly, they make a claim that the NPP has failed in delivering 86per cent of this supposed 631 promises, in other words, they claim we have only achieved 14per cent of this supposed 631 promises which is intellectual dishonesty,” he said.

Mr Nkrumah noted that the Akufo-Addo led administration had been very truthful and transparent.

He said the government had lived up to task and would do more for the country to accelerate living standards of the citizenry.
