Thursday, a sad day in Ghana’s political history as the ‘Big Guy’ passes on—Former Aide weeps
Victor Smith, former aide to the late President Jerry John Rawlings has described him as a “big guy” in the country’s politics following his sudden demise.
The former president passed away at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Thursday, November 12 after a short illness.
Speaking in a media interview, Mr Smith noted that Thursday was a sad day in Ghana’s political history which would leave a mark on the country’s politics forever.
He said Former President Rawlings was indispensable as he contributed to the attainment of the country’s democracy, hence deserves complement.
Mr Smith described JJ Rawlings as courageous who sacrificed his life to end coup d’etat, stressing that he was a signatory to the 1992 Constitution.
He said although the political icon had turned his eyes against the wall but his memories would continue to live in the heart of the country.
Mr Smith noted that Former president Rawlings was a big guy in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party and would be a heavy blow for the party to survive without his direction.
He said the nation was crippled and those closer to the deceased were weeping bitterly as calls were still going through to find whether the news of Former President Rawlings’ death was true.
Mr Smith acknowledged that he was a father and did tremendously well as a ruler and a decision maker.
“It is sad for the country especially as we are heading closer to December 7 elections. We cannot bear this grief,” he added.
