Video of Mahama Preaching against the ‘Free SHS’ pops up after claiming originator of the flagship initiative
A viral video which depicts ex-president John Dramani Mahama fighting against the introduction of Free Senior High School (SHS) policy has popped up on social media after the former claimed he was the first to introduce the free SHS policy.
In the video which saw the then President who is the current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Mahama saying emphatically that the free SHS will destroy the economy of the country.
According to him, many countries which introduced the free SHS policy had suffered financial loss and economic instability, thus there was no need for Ghanaians to introduce such policy.
Ex-president Maha was addressing supporters and party members at the final rally which was held at Trade Fair in Accra in the year 2016.
He said the free SHS advocated by his opponent the then Presidential aspirant, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was just vote gimmicks to lure Ghanaians to vote for him.
“I am saying that Ghana must not introduce free SHS on the whimsical promise of a desperate politician.
Many mistakes have been done by other Africans with Free SHS hence Ghana should n ot introduce it,” Mahama said.
This follows a recent campaign speech by the ex-president claiming to be the originator of free SHS policy and not President Akufo-Addo.
He explained that the free SHS policy which the Akufo-Addo-led administration was using to canvass vote was initiated by his NDC government and President Akufo-Addo has done nothing to take the credit for the policy.
Former President Mahama indicated that he was not in any way going to abolish the free SHS which he himself implemented it.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has expressed shock in the “outright” lies of ex-President Mahama for claiming ownership of a policy which “he vehemently spoke against and said it could only be achieved in 20 years time.” Watch the viral video:
