Reggae-dancehall prodigy, Stonebwoy has advocated three years extension of the ban of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) to serve as a deterrent to young artists.
According to him, some upcoming artists may repeat the act some day if the board of the awards scheme get swayed by the pleas of fans to include them early in the awards.
Addressing the media at Stonebwoy meet the Press in Accra last Friday, the Bless His Emperor Majesty (Bhim) boss explained that being a good musician goes beyond laurels and accolades, saying it required massive innovative and critical thinking, thus urged his fans to accept the decision of the board.
“As a creative person, the power does not lie on any award scheme in making you a better musician. The awards come in once in a year but a musician has to do million things to sustain the recognition,” he said.
The Ololo hit maker stated that it was prudent for the board to maintain the indefinite ban on him and his counterpart, Shatta Wale for young artists to realise the need to put up good behaviour to gain the award.
He explained that the award is a prestigious one, thus artistes needed to respect it and observe the rules and regulations governing it to boost the integrity of the awards.
Stonebwoy who is privately known as Living Stone Etse Satekla also disclosed that he would release an album on March 5, which is his birthday.
The album which he refused to reveal the title, he said would contain 15 tracks and as part of its promotion has opened a merchandise to sell his customised clothes.
He urged fans to keep supporting the brand and keep their fingers crossed for the album.
Earlier, the two artistes appeared before the Accra Magistrate court and were both charged with offensive conduct and breach of public peace.
Stonebwoy faced an additional charge of displaying weapon without permission.
The two pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted GH₵50,000 bail with a surety each.
The two held a press conference to announce a truce and later organised a peace concert.
