Los Bastardos Story Summary

Los Bastardos with its International title “The Bastards” is a Filipino drama which is centred on the Cardinal Bastards. The story follows the lives of five brothers: Isagani, Joaquin, Connor, Matteo and Lucas who will struggle with one another for their rightful place in their father’s heart.

The root of their conflict stems from betrayals and secrets surrounding the individuals around Don Roman Cardinal.

The character of Don Roman in the movie is revealed as an illegitimate son of Don Ismael Cardinal, a wealthy coconut plantation owner of the fictitious region of Victorino in the rural outskirts of Manila, Philippines.

He reunites with his father as an adult, eventually inherits his father’s hacienda and starts a life with his small family. Unfortunately a tragedy strikes and he loses his wife Soledad and son, Roman.

Despite the tragedy, Don Roman pursues his dreams to expand and diversify the Hacienda and build a liquor distillery using ingredients from his coconut crop produce.

Throughout his unhappy and lonely life, Don Roman builds a successful empire and sires five sons from four different women.

All his sons inherit his handsome physique, tenacity, superior physical strength and astuteness that serves them well in their respective fields, but two sons do not benefit from his inherent kindness because of the family environment they grow up in.

Isagani is Don Roman’s long-lost son with his first love; Joaquin the only son who’ll grow up under his care; Matteo is a son who grows up with the rival family of the Cardinals; Connor, who becomes a conman bent on destroying the Cardinal wealth; and Lucas a man who grows up not knowing the man he serves is his own father.

Although they come from different worlds, they are bound together by the same blood. Find out how their lives will become intertwined when they start learning the truth behind their identities.
