Talented Ghanaian comedian, Obarima Akuoko Amponsah known in the industry as OB Amponsah has been emerged the ultimate winner at the maiden GMLive Awards which was held in Accra on Friday, January 14, 2022.

He won the star comedian award and other two awards namely GMLive Comic television personality and Standup comedian awards on the same night.

Aside him, 11 other comedians were also awarded  from categories including GmLive comic musician, comic male and female actor, comedy event and new comic actor.

Speaking exclusively to Ghanaian News during the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the award scheme, Greg Miller said the awards seek to honour and celebrate talented comedians and industrial stakeholders who promote comedy in the country.

“The award is first of a kind and it seeks to honour comedians and stakeholders who are projecting Ghana comedy on the map,” he explained.

Greg Miller said the award which has 15 categories was initiated to strengthen and propel comedians to become creative while encouraging Ghanaians to patronise comic events.

He expressed optimism in Gh comedy and congratulated the winners, urging them to do more for Gh comedy to compete evenly with foreign comedies.

Talking on the sidelines of Gh comedy, Greg Miller lamented that investors in the sector were low and appealed for corporate entities and individuals to invest in the sector.

“I see Gh comedy growing and getting grounds in the entertainment industry but the industry can better develop when we get investors to support the craft of comedians to push them to the world,” he added.

Greg Miller expressed his outfit’s commitment to support comedians and also add more categories in the next year’s awards.

The award was brought in collaboration with Spot On News, an entertainment media site in Ghana.
