5th 3Music Awards: Sarkodie, KiDi, Mr. Drew, Black Sherif lead nods in the nominations  

Sarkodie, KiDi, Mr. Drew and Black Sherif are leading nods in this year’s 3Music Awards nominations which was released in Accra on Friday February 11.

The awards organised by 3Media Networks to recognise and celebrate outstanding musical achievements in Ghana and across Africa saw Sarkodie bagging 11 nominations with KiDi following with nine nominations while Mr. Drew and Stonebwoy equalised with eight nominations.

One of the youngest rapper, who took the industry by storm, Black Sherif also gained seven nominations with his controversial “first and second sermons” song.

Black Sherif becomes a breakthrough artiste who is logging horns with celebrated reggae/dancehall musician Stonebwoy, renowned rapper Sarkodie, talented highlife/ afropop arts KiDi and Kuami Eugene, gospel sensation Celestine Donkor, rapper D-Black, lyricist Mr. Drew, and budding singer Gyakie for the ultimate award in the “Artiste of the Year” category.

Another competitive category is the viral song of the year which would see black Sherif’s Second Sermon competing with KiDi’s touch it, S3fa’s e choke featuring Mr. Drew, Wendy shay’s heat, Sarkodie’s happy day featuting Kuami Eugene, Okese 1 na today, Kofi jamar’s ekorso featuring Yaw tog & Ypee and Okyeame kwame’s Yeeko feauturing Kuami Eugene.

This year’s edition also witnessed new talents making their debut across some categories, including “Best Alternative Song of the Year,” “Best female vocal performance,” and “Best male vocal performance.”

Bethel Revival Choir, Dope Nation, Keche, and R2Bees are regular contenders in the “Group of the Year” category, while Knii Lante makes a debut entry in the “Reggae and Dancehall Artiste of the Year” category, competing with cult artistes Epixode, Samini, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy.

According to the organisers, the 2022 3Music Awards would honour artistes and their works in over 30 categories including woman of the year, hiplife/hip hop act of the year best performer of the year and video of the year.

The fifth 3Music Awards, dubbed: “More Than Music”, would feature performances from leading local, African and international artistes.

The ceremony is expected to be held on March 26, 2022 at the Accra International Conference Centre’s Grand Arena.
