VGMA 22: Diana Hamilton did not win Artiste of the Year— Mr Logic dares Charter House to bring out figures
Former artiste Manager and Entertainment critic, Emmanuel Barnes known in the industry as Mr Logic has condemned Charter House, organisers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) for awarding talented gospel musician, Diana Hamilton as Artiste of the Year.
According to him, the artiste of the year in its actual meaning does not qualify Diana Hamilton to be in the category to an extent of winning from the category.

Speaking on United Showbiz in Accra on Saturday, Mr Logic noted that artiste of the year meant the ultimate artiste in the industry who describes the entire Art of the country, hence no religious artiste could win from that category.
He explained further that his argument was based on how popular awards schemes including Grammy Awards were organised.
“Diana Hamilton did not win, first of all gospel is not a genre and it is not done anywhere even at the top model of an award, the Grammies, and you cannot argue this anywhere, no religious artiste will gain nominations in the artiste of the year and record of the year categories because artiste of the year is the ultimate person who describes the entire Art or the industry,” he said.
Mr Logic observed that religious songs did not define the entire Art of the country and dared the board and academy of the VGMA to bring out the figures they used in awarding Diana Hamilton as the Artiste of the Year.

He also argued that the problem was not about voting which constituted 40 per cent of the decision making, “because if it was about voting KiDi or Medikal could have won but the problem is about the awards academy and the board so they should come clean.”
Mr Logic emphasised that gospel artiste could not be popular than secular artiste especially in the current industry.
“And you cannot argue this anywhere so if you want to do it that is where we will track the figures. In as much as we appreciate what you are doing you need to come clear,” he added.
However, the Head of Communication at Charter House, Robert Klah insisted that any musician who made it to the artiste of the year deserved to be there.

“Per the metric of VGMA the artiste should have a popular song, have an extended play album (EP) or album and all the nominees qualified.
But when it comes to the decision of who will win, the academy has 30% and the board has 30% so if an artiste gain a good score from these two tiers and the one tier which is the public who contribute 40% to the decision making did not even give a good score ultimately the artiste will still be a winner,” he explained.
Mr Khlah insisted that per the scheme Diana Hamilton won and brush off Mr Logic’s argument, stressing that Charter House had it form of organising its awards for over the 22years and should not be compared.
