Kofi Kinaata’s “things fall apart” to be nominated for 2020 VGMA Gospel Music of the year-NII Ayitey Hammond

Nii Ayitey Hammond, a member of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) board has announced changes in the 2020 VGMA music nomination categories.

He said some secular artistes who sang inspirational and gospel-like music in the year 2019 would be included in next year’s Gospel music and Artiste of the year category.

Mr Hammond insisted that Gospel Music is a genre and any artiste could be included in that category, hence the new decision of the award board.

He explained on Amansan Television (ATV) Christian Review show that every year comes with its own trend, and per the year under review most secular musicians changed the gospel market with the tracks they composed and deserved to be included in the category.

Mr Hammond noted that Kofi Kinaata’s “Things fall apart” is changing trends than most gospel songs released this year and would be unfair if the awards board by-passed him, saying “ this has influenced the board to include him and others in the category.”

Answering whether the board ever thought of including “Inspirational song of the year” to the existed categories in order to draw a line between gospel and secular music, he said his outfit had not thought to include such category.

Mr Hammond called on Ghanaians to accept the new decision in order not to confuse themselves when they see such changes.
